Brief Job Description

The Long Beach Yacht Club is celebrating our 90th year of operations, and we are currently seeking a passionate and high performing professional to lead our beverage program and bar operation. Long Beach Yacht Club is a year-round operation that serves membership of approximately 1,200 families, and generates approximately $3.4 million in annual food and beverage revenues. Operating hours are approximately 9:00am to 12:00am Tuesday through Sunday. Club facilities include full service member dining amenities, multiple indoor and outdoor dining spaces which can accommodate events of up to 1,000 guests, pool and snack bar, and member/guest moorage. 

The position is available immediately for the successful candidate.

Position Description:

The Restaurant/Bar Manager will report to the General Manager and will join a F&B service team that consists of a Dining Room Manager, Catering Manager, and Executive Chef. He/she is responsible for the developing and maintaining a dynamic beverage program and leading a professional bar service team. He/she will oversee Club service staff in concert with the Dining Room and Catering Managers during periods of peak Club activity and will serve as manager on duty in lieu of the Dining Room Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops creative and comprehensive wine, beer, and spirit lists for daily service and utilizes food and wine pairing skills to prepare special event menus.
  • Orders, maintains, and manages inventories of all beverage products.
  • Directs high quality and high service daily beverage program and bar operations, and assists the F&B Management Team in the oversight and execution of service in all Club dining venues.
  • Implement and oversee regular ongoing beverage and service training to all Club service staff.
  • Assists in the development of F&B budgets, reviews financial reports and takes corrective actions as appropriate to successfully achieve desired financial operating results.
  • Actively manage all departmental expenses with an emphasis on effective labor management.
  • Effectively communicates with members, guests and employees in a friendly and positive manner.
  • Ensure timely and professional correspondence with all member, employee, and guest inquiries.
  • Returns phone calls, inquiries within 12 business hours.
  • Drives customer loyalty by delivering service excellence and communicates areas of improvement to all staff members in order to execute a great member/guest experience.
  • Tracks new products and trends in bar/beverage service applicable to the Club, and continually develops quality and image of Club services.
  • Assists in additional projects as directed by club management.

Candidate Qualifications

Experience 

  • 2-4 years’ experience in managing a high volume wine, beer, and liquor beverage program at a similar full service facility; private club and fine dining experience preferred.
  • 3 years of full service restaurant/club/hotel management experience supervising a food and beverage service staff/team.

Language & Computer Skills 

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English. Comprehension of detailed instructions, and the ability to compose professional correspondence is required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members, clients, and employees.
  • Strong sales skills, including suggestive selling and cold calling.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft 2013 Office Suite (or newer), web browsing, and basic social media applications (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Minimum 40 hour work week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, stand, regularly lift and lift and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Educational Requirements

Associates degree with a concentration in hospitality, marketing, or communication; bachelor’s degree preferred.
