Brief Job Description
The Tennis Professional position is comprehensive and must ensure successful achievement of the mission and objectives of Preakness Hills Country Club. Primary responsibility is to assure consistent, highly ethical, efficient and seamless daily operation of the tennis operations and to provide members and guest with an environment that exceeds the expectations of our discerning membership. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall operation of the Tennis Program, including court maintenance, programming and staff management. The Professional is a highly visible position requiring strong presence and leadership. The Professional is expected to be the leader of the Tennis program by passionately promoting the game. These traits must resonate through all staff.
A positive, innovative and energetic approach to member engagement essential, a focus on instruction, social and family activities for all levels of players is paramount. The perfect candidate must be able to demonstrate proven written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent organizational, technological and time management skills. Verifiable strength in working closely with boards, committees and other key contributors to developing and executing the club’s vision
The candidate must possess a proven ability to attract, hire, develop, and lead a high performing team of professionals while setting standards of performance appropriate to perpetuating the traditions and values of the Club.
Programming & Instruction
- Enthusiastically encourage member participation by planning events to promote the sports and fellowship in the Club. Organize, schedule, and manage tournaments, clinics, round robins, social events, and other tennis related activities to maximize members’ access to and enjoyment of the tennis facilities.
- Create comprehensive events and activities for adults, families and juniors to include competitive, social and instructional programming for all levels, and other events/activities deemed to enhance the tennis experience at the Club.
- Provide an appropriate amount of private and group lessons to both adults and juniors; oversee lessons taught by other professionals.
- Establish a creative junior program to grow the game.
- Manage a Children’s Activities program
- Document and report to the GM/COO successful and/or unsuccessful programs to be used as a reference tool in future event and calendar planning.
Administration
- Oversee department POS operations to ensure accurate member billing and accurate sales/activity reports.
- Attend all senior staff, tennis committee and some sub-committee meetings.
- Implement all of Preakness Hills Club’s rules and regulations governing use of the facilities, equipment, dress code and sportsmanship as set forth by the Club.
- Oversee the annual budget process, monthly financial performance and weekly payroll management.
Candidate Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership/tennis management experience in (preferably) a private member-owned country club with tennis operations. A head professional or first assistant at an extremely successful club and tennis program will be considered. The successful candidate will possess a high-level of proficiency in both playing and teaching the sport of tennis and ideally has played high-level collegiate tennis or greater.
A resume indicating progressively more responsible positions and demonstrating experience in delivering both group and individual instructional programs to players of various age groups and skill levels. Additionally, the candidate should have a proven history of high ethical standards. The candidate should have a history of innovation and be a champion of new ideas, programs and initiatives; looking to consistently improve member experiences and operational efficiency

Compensation
The first year contract will run from early May to October 4, 2021 and will be subject to renewal on a yearly basis. Compensation includes a generous competitive seasonal salary and benefits package commensurate with qualifications and experience.
