Golf Facilities

  • 18 hole course, par 71, designed by Hurdzan/Fry
The award winning 18-hole course was designed by Hurdzan/Fry GCD, Inc. and first opened in 2000. Designer, Michael Hurdzan, was named Designer of the Year in 2003 by Golf Magazine for his work at The Ledges. Situated 1,582 feet – the highest point in all of Huntsville – golf members will experience breathtaking panoramic views of the valley, downtown Huntsville, and even the Space and Rocket Center. Bent Grass Greens, Zoysia Fairways, and Bermuda Rough make up the landscape of the course. Designed with 6 different tee sets, sculpted greens and fairways, and challenging bunkers, the course offers golfers of all skill levels an outstanding golf experience.

On top of the mountain, overlooking the 18th Fairway, The Ledges features a Resort Style Swimming Pool, Children's Pool, patio and The 22 restaurant. During the warm weather months, the pool is open for play, relaxation, and private swimming lessons.

The Fitness Center, open for members 24/7, overlooks the pool, golf course and the valley below. It features Paramount & Hoist machines, free weights, plus Precor treadmills and ellipticals. Televisions are provided in the workout rooms for member's enjoyment.

The 36,000 square foot English Tudor style manor house is an architectural masterpiece perched on the western point of Huntsville Mountain. Aside from the expansive long range views, the club encompasses a grand hall, private men's and ladies lounges, two bars, two dining rooms, a large ball room, private meeting rooms as well as upper and lower outdoor verandas and poolside dining. The Ledges proudly provides what many say is "the finest dining experience in North Alabama." The club serves Breakfast on Saturday, Lunch and Dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and a Champagne Sunday Brunch.

Food and Beverage Manager

Brief Job Description

The Ledges is seeking a hospitality focused leader to serve as Food and Beverage Manager for our clubOur ideal candidate must be personable, professional, and friendly. Someone that takes pride in building long lasting member relationships and possesses the ability to develop team members in a positive atmosphere and train them on exceptional steps of service.

The standards of appearance, hospitality, service, and cleanliness are paramount. The qualified candidate must be honest, respectful, dedicated, ethical, caring, have a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. This individual will be an integral part of the front of the house management team and will answer directly to the Director of Food and Beverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a pleasant dining experience by all members and guests through consistent interaction and engagement
  • Provide constant refinement of service standards
  • Manage service aspects of the food and beverage operation by training, developing, and supervising all front-of-the-house staff in standards of quality and service
  • Manage dining room and event operations to ensure proper room preparation, including set up of tables, chairs, linens, table settings, and glassware
  • Conduct pre-shift/event meetings, confirming all service staff are in proper uniform and adhere to appearance standards
  • Conduct daily inspections of Food & Beverage operational and storage areas to ensure proper set-up, cleanliness and organization.
  • Communicate with service and kitchen staff regarding reservations and/or special events
  • Assist with selections, development and retention of a talented food and beverage staff, 
  • Verify the accuracy of all charges to member accounts to ensure proper posting.  This may include verification of member number, name an/or signature. 
  • Control costs of food and beverage operation by assisting management in: purchasing of beverages, supplies and equipment; maintaining effective profit and loss controls; utilizing labor scheduling to adjust schedules to following demand patterns, tracking expenses including payroll, supplies and maintenance; generating monthly inventory report, cost of sales report and other reports as requested by management
  • Maximize food and beverage sales by identifying and targeting sales opportunities through marketing including promotions and special events
  • Protect the club, members and guests by training staff in and adhering to all safety, sanitation, food preparation, food storage and alcohol beverage control policies
  • Maintain customer satisfaction by handling customer inquiries, concerns or comments and providing solutions; acquiring feedback from customers and co-workers in order to ensure satisfaction and/or implement service improvement ideas; developing new concepts to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business
  • Be aware of all club events, large parties and reservations that may affect the food and beverage operation
  • The primary duty of the Assistant Food and Beverage Director is management and oversight of the staff and operation.  However, this is a working management position and the expectation will be for the candidate to be on the floor during service and will be required to fill in as bartender, server, host, etc. when needed.

 

Candidate Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • A four-year degree in Hospitality Management or related field or an equivalent number of years of experience in a similar position within the golf/hospitality/service industry
  • Must have a hands-on, lead by example management style
  • Must possess wine and alcohol beverage knowledge
  • Fine Dining or private club experience a plus
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Very detailed oriented
  • Experience in resolving customer issues/complaints
  • Serve Safe certification required within 90 days of employment
  • Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Solid time management, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to effectively build and foster a team environment
  • Ability to make decisions, remain calm and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
