2025 Immediate Past Chair
Joe Mendez, CCM, CCE
Joe Mendez, CCM (Certified Club Manager), CCE (Certified Chief Executive), is the Immediate Past Chair of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA). Mendez was elected the Chairman of the CMAA Board of Directors at its 2024 World Conference and Club Business Expo, held in Las Vegas, NV, in March 2024. He first began his service on the Board of Directors in 2017.
Mendez currently serves as the General Manager/COO at Avalon Yacht Club in Avalon, NJ. He has extensive experience as a General Manager/COO, with previous appointments at Doylestown Country Club, Riverton Country Club, Germantown Cricket Club, and Radley Run Country Club. He also served in three different positions including Assistant General Manager, Clubhouse Manager, and Food & Beverage Director at Whitford Country Club in Exton, PA, from 2003-2006. He began his career in club management as the Dining Room Manager at The Union League of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, PA, in 2000.
Mendez first joined CMAA as a Student member in 1998 while enrolled at Widener University. He joined as a Professional member in 2003. He has volunteered on many national committees including the Audit, Chapter/Member Services, Communications, Bylaws, Professional Development, and Premier Club Services Committees. Most recently, Mendez served as the Chairman of the 2024 Conference Committee. In 2025, he will lead the Nominating and Bylaws and Policy Committees.
On the chapter level, Mendez has been active in multiple roles within the Philadelphia & Vicinity Chapter and the Philadelphia Club Foundation. He served as the Chairman of the National Student Education Conference in 2016, and as Co-Chairman of the event in 2010.
Outside of CMAA, Mendez has been active with the Exton Region Chamber of Commerce, the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, and the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He has previously served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Delaware and Widener University.
As CMAA Immediate Past Chair, Mendez will collaborate with the membership, National Committees and Task Forces, Partners, and the National Headquarters team to advance the profession and foster a thriving club industry by supporting CMAA-educated professionals.
