William S. Shonk, CCM, CCE
William S. Shonk, CCM (Certified Club Manager), CCE (Certified Chief Executive), General Manager of Princess Anne Country Club, in Virginia Beach, VA, was re-elected to the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) Board of Directors at its 2022 World Conference and Club Business Expo, held in San Diego, CA. He was first elected to the Board of Directors in 2020 and was re-elected for a three-year term.
Shonk has served as the General Manager of Princess Anne Country Club since 2002. Prior to that appointment, he served in General Manager roles at the Country Club of Petersburg, Petersburg, VA, Hartefeld National in Avondale, PA, and Oakwood Country Club, Lynchburg, VA. After graduating with a business degree from the College of William and Mary, Shonk commenced his club career at Capital City Country Club in Atlanta, GA, then Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, TX.
Shonk first joined CMAA in 1987. He earned his CCM designation in 1993 and achieved his CCE designation in 2011. He has served on national committees including the Bylaws and Policy, Chapter/Member Services, Corporate Relations, Credentials, Elections, Membership, and Chapter of the Year Committees. In 2024, he will chair the Advocacy Committee.
On the Chapter level, he served as President of the Virginias Chapter in 2002 and multiple other leadership roles since 1994.
As a CMAA Board member, Shonk will work together with the membership, National Committees and Task Forces, Partners, and the National Headquarters team to advance the profession and the broader industry collaboratively.
