Note These Upcoming Student Scholarship and Grant Deadlines
The Club Foundation is proud to support students and the academic community by offering scholarships and grants to students, faculty, and CMAA student chapters. Our first two application deadlines of the year focus on students pursuing careers in the club industry.
Joe Perdue Scholarship Deadline: June 1
Joe Perdue, CCM, CHE, was a mentor and role model who made a lasting impact on the club industry. He developed CMAA’s Business Management Institutes, elevated its education and certification pathways, and served on The Club Foundation Board of Directors for decades. A former club manager turned academic, Joe paved the way for the success of tens of thousands of club leaders and management students around the world.
The Joe Perdue Scholarship provides a $5,000 award to each awardee committed to advancing their professional careers in the club industry. The funds are paid directly to the recipient's university bursar account to cover tuition and fees.
Student Chapter Grant Deadline: June 1
This annual grant supports Student Chapters in two ways:
- A complimentary student registration to the CMAA World Conference for the Chapter President
- A matching-funds travel grant to assist with expenses related to attending the Conference
All active Student Chapters automatically receive the complimentary registration voucher. To apply for the matching travel grant, chapters must submit an official application and provide documentation showing the amount raised, which The Club Foundation will match dollar for dollar, up to $500.
For full details and to apply, visit our Apply Page. Don’t miss out—June 1 is right around the corner!

Legislative/Advocacy Chairman
PAR Act to Modernize Tax Code for Golf and Country Clubs Reintroduced
HR 1583, the Parity for Athletic Recreation (PAR) Act, has been reintroduced in the US House of Representatives. This legislation would amend the language (§ 144(c)(6)(B) of the Internal Revenue Code) that disqualifies any “any private or commercial golf course, country club” from access to various forms of disaster relief and economic stimulus programs. The legislation is designed to allow golf and the club industry to be on par with other hospitality businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, and attractions, when it comes to disaster relief. Later this month, the industry will advocate for the passage of this legislation on Capitol Hill at National Golf Day.

St. Louis District Chapter Engages with Missouri State University Hospitality Students
Submitted by Jason Kaplan
On Tuesday, April 8, the St. Louis District Chapter participated in an on-campus visit to Missouri State University to engage with students in the hospitality program. Fourteen club managers enjoyed lunch at the student-run campus restaurant, followed by an hour-and-a-half panel discussion moderated by two hospitality students.
The purpose of the visit was to educate students on the benefits of pursuing careers in the private club industry, as an alternative to more traditional paths in restaurants or hotels. The trip was a success, as several students followed up with managers to inquire about summer internship opportunities.
