Featured Strategy: Giving Tuesday Was a Success!
Although final numbers aren’t in yet, US donations on Giving Tuesday, December 3, are estimated at $3.6 Billion, an estimated 16 percent increase over 2023.
Much of our success during The Club Foundation’s Giving Tuesday campaign is due to the energy and enthusiasm of a group of amazing Managing Directors and their teams in the Chapter Challenge. This year, The Club Foundation raised more than $32,000 to fund scholarships and grants for CMAA members and our industry. This represents a significant increase in total contributions received compared to 2023. And this year, there were more than 200 donations which represents an increase in engagement of more than 25 percent. Thank you to all our Chapter teams!
This year seven Chapters exceeded their Challenge goal and 25 Chapters participated by making donations—the Georgia Chapter and Florida Chapter battled it out for first place with the three top Chapters at midnight on Giving Tuesday as follows:
First place: Georgia Chapter with 244.86 percent of goal.
Second place: Florida Chapter with 241.34 percent of goal.
Third place: Greater Michigan Chapter with 158.64 percent of goal.

The Foundation’s giving portfolio includes funds for award grants for Chapter of the Year, New Recruitment, and Chapter Idea Fair contests. The Club Foundation places a priority on financially supporting member education and supporting your efforts to provide the very best continuing education specific to your region.
Why is Giving Tuesday important?
Giving Tuesday is one fundraising effort that adds to all our annual efforts to raise funds that support scholarships and grants for members. Last year we added a couple of important additions and enhancements to our giving portfolio:
- We increased the travel stipend for existing scholarships to better support our scholarship recipients, from $1,000 to $1,500. These include the Sally Burns Rambo Scholarship, the LaRocca Family Executive Scholarship, and the James B. Singerling Scholarship;
- We added the Wine Society’s Warren Arseneaux Honorary Scholarship to our funding portfolio; and,
- We restarted the Chapter Workshop Grant for more support for education at the Chapter level:
- Chapter Workshop Grant Applications are due December 15 this year and we look forward to funding those for FY2025. (Please go to the Chapter section of the Foundation’s Apply page to learn more.)
As we continue to grow contributions, and with your help, we look forward to the opportunity to continue to grow the dollars we give away and the support we can provide to CMAA members.
What’s coming up?
Our next immediate fundraising effort is to secure year-end gifts as the end of the 2024 tax year draws to a close. Please consider making a year-end gift. Together with all those who donate throughout the year, you are making a difference in the lives of others and in the future of our industry.
There are several ways to donate:
- Make an online donation or mail a check
- Make a stock/securities donation
- Add a contribution to your membership renewal
- Make a pledge to donate over time or make an online recurring donation
- Include The Club Foundation in your estate planning
Detailed information about all the ways that The Foundation supports CMAA members can be found on our website. As always, please feel free to call us at 703-299-4284 or send us a message with questions you may have.

Deadline Approaching: Calling All National Committee Volunteers
As a membership organization, CMAA is governed by members to serve members. Standing and At-Conference committees are an important part of CMAA’s leadership structure and are vital to its success.
Each fall, CMAA puts out a call for volunteers for Professional/Alumnus members to serve on National Committees. CMAA Chapter leaders are a great resource to help identify potential applicants and encouraging them to submit the required volunteer service information.
Appointments are made by the incoming CMAA Chairman and designed to achieve balanced member representation from chapters and regions, club types, individual demographics, skill set, and professional experience.
Close to 150 committee openings are anticipated for 2025. National committee service qualifications criteria, additional information, and the service request form are available. As committee placements and needs vary annually, CMAA cannot guarantee selection of all volunteer applications. Applications to serve are due by December 15.
Thanks in advance for encouraging your fellow members (or you!) to get involved with CMAA in this volunteer capacity. Member guidance and input are critical to the Association’s continued success!
Managing Directors
Members who have not paid their national dues by the end of the year will be dropped from the Association’s roster. Please look at your Chapter lists to see who has yet to renew and help us keep these members onboard. If you need assistance determining who still needs to renew, please contact the Membership Team.

Looking for Interns in 2025?
Be sure to pass on to your chapter members that there are multiple ways to search for interns for your club.
- List your opportunities on the Internship Job Board. The listing is free, runs for 12 weeks, and can be renewed.
- Sign up for the Verified Internship Program and build a strong talent pipeline for careers in club management. Then list your jobs on the Internship Job Board.
- Bring a copy of your internship and post it on the Job Boards in the Member Services Pavillion in Tampa, FL, during the World Conference and Club Business Expo.
Having interns not only gives clubs much needed help during peak times, it gives much needed experience to the students and serves to strengthen the future of the club management industry.
