Mark Your Calendars: CCM Proctored Exam and Joe Perdue Certification Review Course

The next date for Certified Club Manager (CCM) candidates to take a proctored exam is August 12. Candidates who have submitted a Certification Petition to the Education Department and meet the exam requirements are eligible to take the exam. An exam registration form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the exam date. Once a candidate has submitted the exam registration form, the National Headquarters Education team will create an invoice for the $200 exam fee.

Unfortunately, the Joe Perdue Certification Review Course is full for November 2024. For 2025, CMAA will be offering three dates for the Certification Review Course. There will be two in-person programs (April and November) and one virtual program (January). As a reminder, the in-person program will begin on Monday and end on Saturday with the exam administration. The fee for the in-person program is $2,300 and includes the exam fee. The fee for the virtual program is $1,600. The exam fee is $200 and is not included in the fee for the virtual program.

For more information about registering for the CCM exam or taking the BMI Certification Review Course, contact Sonya Peterbark, manager, Certification and Education, at 703-739-9500.

Finding Balance in the Busy Summer Months

For many members, the summer brings long days and extra responsibilities, and while this can be fulfilling—happy club members and families—it can take its toll. As a counterbalance, consider speaking with Kevin MacDonald and Shelley MacDougall of Clarity Success Coaching, to gain some coping techniques to maintain work/life balance. Kevin and Shelley have been helping members for many years. Give them a call!

2024 Club Executive of the Year Call for Nominations

Annually, Club Management magazine recognizes excellence in club leadership with the Club Executive of the Year Award. Originally known as the Club Manager of the Year, this distinction was created in 1985 by Club Management magazine to honor an individual who by his or her achievements best represents the qualities found in hard-working, dedicated club management leaders. In 2008, the award was re-titled to mirror the evolution of the profession.

Today, the distinction highlights one club management professional annually who demonstrates mentoring, creates a supportive club culture, and sustains ongoing engagement with their local CMAA Chapter.

CMAA welcomes and encourages nominations from diverse backgrounds and work experiences.

2024 Nominations must include specifics on how the nominee fosters and embraces:

  • Mentoring;
  • Creating a club culture which supports the staff team through on-going educational opportunities and crisis assistance; and
  • Demonstrating sustained engagement with their local CMAA Chapter.

Review the full criteria, judging process, and notification process.

Help us spread the word to your Chapter members and participating clubs. All Nominations must be received by September 10.

For questions, please contact Melissa Low, CAE, Vice President, Communications and Advocacy, at 703-739-9500 ext. 286.

OSHA Unveils Proposed Heat Stress Rule

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed new regulations to prevent heat injury and illness in both indoor and outdoor work settings. Clubs will be required to create and implement a heat hazard evaluation and control plan specific to their locations, monitor heat conditions, develop heat emergency response plans, conduct annual training, and maintain records of indoor monitoring data. The proposed rule establishes heat index triggers at 80 and 90 degrees, each with specific employee accommodations and control measures. Read more in the Legislative Report blog.

Registration is Open for the Mid-Management Conference

Offered in the fall, the Mid-Management Conference began as a grassroots effort in 1991 by the Greater Chicago Chapter to provide quality educational and networking opportunities for club management professionals who do not serve in the general manager/chief operating officer role. Education is focused on developing new skills, broadening horizons, and advancing career and certification goals.

This year’s event will take place in Philadelphia, PA, September 29–October 2, 2024. Attend and explore sessions on personal leadership, club trends, and career advancement. Learn more and register.

Research Chairman

Participate in Ongoing Research

There is still an opportunity to participate in two CMAA Research initiatives.

The Club Employee Demographic Assessment (CEDA) is designed to help provide valuable information toward understanding the demographics of private club employees. CEDA represents a comprehensive and confidential tool for clubs to assess and benchmark themselves against other clubs.

Faculty researchers at Michigan State University are conducting a Club Ethics Survey. They are interested in learning what club executives think about the ethics of various activities occurring at some clubs in our industry and whether you, the respondent, might personally engage in the stated action. Further, they want to know who or what has most influenced the values held by contemporary club executives.

Please reach out to Amilcar Davy with any questions.
