2024 National Golf Day: Fostering Dialogue on Key Issues
CMAA proudly joined the 16th annual National Golf Day activities in Washington, DC, as part of the American Golf Industry Coalition. Together, we are working to advance our industry. From shaping impactful discussions to fostering collaboration, we're all proud to be a part of an industry that provides economic, human, and charitable benefit for millions of Americans. More than 200 industry advocates including the 2024 Advocacy Committee, CMAA’s National Chairmen, and many committed CMAA advocates headed to Capitol Hill on May 9. More than 230 meetings were held with members of Congress, reaching 38 states.
The top issues addressed at National Golf Day included:
HR3124 - Modernizing the US Tax Code: Section 144(c)(6)(B) of the Internal Revenue Code, enacted in 1976, renders golf and clubs as disqualified and unworthy of various forms of disaster relief and economic stimulus programs that are available other hospitality businesses, including restaurants, hotels, and attractions. This bill would remove golf and clubs from the exclusionary list.
Reauthorize National Turfgrass Research Initiative: Congress recognized the importance of turfgrass to our environment and economy by authorizing research in the 2018 Farm Bill. We requested continued inclusion and $5M in new grant funding through the FY2024 Agricultural Appropriations bill.
PHIT Act: HR 1582 /S786 would allow Americans the option to use their HSA/FSA funds on activity expenses to lower the cost of healthy lifestyles. Funds could be used for sport league fees, youth camps, exercise classes, equipment, lessons and clinics, greens fees, etc.
Additionally, other issues of note include:
Increase Availability of H-2B Visas: The "Closing the Workforce Gap Act of 2024" (HR7574) would create a permanent H-2B cap relief by setting the annual cap at the number of H-2B worker positions certified by the Department of Labor in the prior fiscal year.
Reduce Emissions Through Rebates on Zero-Emission Equipment: The "Promoting Reduction of Emissions Through Landscaping Act (HR6013)," would provide a 40 percent tax credit on the purchase of zero-emission equipment, up to $25,000 annually or no more than $100,000 over 10 years.
Invest in Tomorrow's Workforce: HR 1477, the "Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow's Workforce Act," would expand 529 savings plans to be used for professional certifications, including postsecondary training and credentialing.
Our industry efforts continue year-round and CMAA would love your support to make our voice heard. It is not too late to help us reach every legislator and foster constructive dialogue with our elected officials about issues of importance. With just a few clicks, you can send a letter promoting the passage of HR3124!
