Exploring the Capital Improvements Handbook
CMAA is excited to release the fourth section of the CMAA Capital Improvements Handbook. The CMAA Capital Improvements Handbook looks at the process and best practices/suggested procedures discussed at the CMAA Capital Improvements Symposium. This is done while also emphasizing the significance of building high-performing project management teams and engaging various stakeholders, including club members, throughout the journey.
Chapters 8-10 of the handbook focuses on:
- Construction Safety in Our Clubs
- Partnering And Working with Government Agencies
- Closing Out Capital Projects
This handbook also delves into common pitfalls such as lack of strategy and leadership, unanticipated costs, and inexperienced project management. Emphasizing the necessity of time, patience, and strategic planning, this handbook aims to equip club decision-makers with the knowledge required to make informed choices, ensuring each capital improvement project contributes to the club’s long-term success and reputation.
This handbook serves as a comprehensive guide for club decision-makers embarking on capital improvement projects. By adopting a strategic and collaborative approach, engaging stakeholders, ensuring robust financial planning, and adhering to regulatory requirements, clubs can successfully navigate the complexities of capital improvements.

All Officers
An annual CMAA theme is introduced each year to give all CMAA members, Chapters, and National a common goal to work towards for the membership year. After some discussions in the Chapter Relations Committee, they determined one year was insufficient for a theme to come to life. They decided to keep the same theme for 2025: There’s No Place Like CMAA! If you have already made the theme come to life in your Chapter, keep up the great work! If not, now is your chance. We’re looking forward to another great membership year and showing that there isn’t any place like CMAA!
Managing Directors
CMAA members have until December 31 to pay their 2025 National dues without penalty. Please reach out to your members who need to pay their dues so we don’t lose them!

The ABCs of Music Licensing
The number of performing rights organizations has been growing in recent years. What are ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, and what about GMR? Clubs must pay a licensing fee to obtain the legal permission required to perform copyrighted music under the US Copyright Law. This includes live music performances and recorded music. Find out about your club’s responsibilities and how to take advantage of CMAA negotiated discounts in the Legislative Report blog.
