F&B Education Brings Back of the House, Front & Center

Virginias Chapter

Entry Details

The Virginias Chapter, CMAA Education Committee made a firm commitment to its inclusivity and relevancy in its educational programming. A strategic food & beverage training was scheduled following two months of virtual programming and managers were encouraged to “Bring their Teams.” Bring their teams they did. The chapter, in partnership with Annette Whittley of KK&W, created a powerful F&B training that educated attendees on service delivery, effective leadership, pairings and more. The training also included an interactive food and wine pairing competition hosted by the Country Club of Virginia and judged by their sous chef and restaurant manager. With more than 90 in attendance, the event drew more managers than on the chapter’s membership roster. Managers of all levels attended and felt a sense of belonging with many experiencing Chapter education for the first time.

Implementation

Through planning, the Virginias Chapter Board and Education Committee sought to implement a strong food and beverage component to its education calendar and offering. The Chapter, in an effort to boost attendance and reach, curtailed the programming to include a pairings challenge and contest for team members. Managers supported the event by sending many of their back of the house personnel. The event was a huge success and has created momentum for the Chapter.  It was fun, innovative and brought all club outlets together.
