Virginia Club Managers Partner with James Madison University to Develop Virtual Club Management Course

Virginias Chapter

Entry Details

Three club managers from the Virginias Chapter recently partnered with the Hart School at James Madison University to develop and film a virtual club management class. The class will be utilized as part of the school’s hospitality and recreation management program’s club management course. The trio discussed the benefits of a career in club management, how to get involved in the CMAA student chapter, things they wish they would have learned earlier in their career, and much more. The class is set to be included in the fall 2024 curriculum. The school’s location can make it challenging for managers to visit students in person. This virtual class is a great way to connect with future CMAA leaders and further promote the profession.

Implementation

The Virginias Chapter Board has a firm commitment to student and faculty engagement. The Chapter became aware of faculty changes at James Madison University, specifically the turnover of the faculty advisor position for the CMAA Student Chapter of JMU. The Virginias Chapter is geographically spread out and vast. This idea of filming and commitment to sharing the profession helps to close the gap and establishes a virtual presence throughout the college semester. Chapter managers learned of this engagement through the Chapter’s newsletter and are excited about what’s to come.
