Summer Internship (Manager-In-Training)

The Ideal Candidate 

  • Full-time, junior or senior level Hospitality major student.
  • Have one prior summer of work experience in the field of hospitality:  hotel, restaurant, country club, foodservice or resort.
  • Outgoing personality; enthusiastic, energetic and eager to learn about all facets of the hospitality business.

Job Summary

  • The chosen individual(s) will be trained and primarily work in fine-dining service, serving the membership of our private country club.
  • Upon mastering the basics of fine-dining service, the student(s) will be placed in a number of “manager-in-training” settings:  supervising private party events, hosting member dining rooms, bartending and attending weekly senior management meetings.
  • The summer internship is designed to provide the Hospitality-major student with an overview of all facets of private country club operations; from Golf Shop, Kitchen Management & Food Service, Accounting, Children’s Events/Programs, Grounds Maintenance & Swimming Pool, to name a few.
  • Individual and group projects will be awarded to each summer intern that are “real-world” projects designed to enhance their practical experience and to create a legacy for the club’s future utilization:  i.e.:  Excel monthly food & beverage inventory spreadsheets, develop a wedding planner guide, photo collection and display of menu items, PowerPoint server training aid – to name a few previous projects.

Candidate Qualifications

Individual and group projects will be awarded to each summer intern that are “real-world” projects designed to enhance their practical experience and to create a legacy for the club’s future utilization:  i.e.:  Excel monthly food & beverage inventory spreadsheets, develop a wedding planner guide, photo collection and display of menu items, PowerPoint server training aid – to name a few previous projects.

The summer interns, as a group, will be given adult and children programming projects to plan, promote, budget, carry-out and evaluate, such as:  Father’s Day Buffet, Camp Country Club (overnight camp out on the grounds), Movie Night(s), Junior Recognition Banquet, etc.

The student will have one-on-one time with each department manager to discuss their areas of responsibilities:  Golf Professional, Executive Chef, Aquatic Manager, Director of Tennis, Dining Services Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, Beverage Director, General Manager, Office Manager, etc.

Educational Requirements

Full-time, Junior or Senior level Hospitality major student.

Have one prior summer of work experience in the field of hospitality:  Hotel, Restaurant, Country Club, foodservice or resort.

Outgoing personality; enthusiastic, energetic and eager to learn about all facets of the hospitality busines

Date Position Available

May 15 until August 15 2019

Other Benefits

  • Rate of pay is $9.50 per hour and 1 ½ time on hours worked over 40/week (while functioning as a server, add gratuity – $2 - $3.50 per hour more)
  • 1 ½ time is paid to employees that work on holidays (Memorial Day & 4th of July)

  • Provided expense-paid field trips associated with the hospitality business:  a day at the National Restaurant Show in Chicago, tour of private country clubs in Champaign and Peoria, Ronnoco coffee roasting house tour in St. Louis, Destihl Brewery tour in Bloomington, IL, Breakthur beverage IL, Mackinaw Valley Vineyard
  • Fully-furnished apartment units w/ kitchen, living space, bathrooms, bedrooms, cable TV, internet and washer/dryer 
  • Financial Requirements
  • You will be responsible for all apartment utilities paid in advance of $500 per person for the entire summer
  • Portions of your required uniforms are provided by the club with a security deposit of $50 and will be returned to you upon the return of your uniforms at the end of the season
  • Your own dependable form of transportation to/from work
