Big Canoe POA F&B Summer Internship
(Mid-May to Mid-August)
Join us at Big Canoe for our twelve-week Rotational Management Internship. You will get to learn from out great staff and experience all that Big Canoe has to offer. This program will take you through most of the Departments at the POA and show you how vital they all are to member satisfaction. Along with your rotations you primarily will be serving at the Black Bear Pub and formal dinners. In addition, some of your rotations will be captaining banquets, tending bar and working at the Swim Club, Wildcat and Duffers. We do around five weddings during the summer, along with a variety of Property Owner activities, so you will get to experience a variety of events.
Requirements:
Have a general interest in Clubs and Community Events with a willingness to work hard and learn.
POSITION SUMMARY
The twelve-week internship is to assist the Food and Beverage Managers in the supervision of all hourly food and beverage employees. Responsible for developing solutions to enhance the overall Food and Beverage operations at the Clubhouse, Duffers and Swim Club.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·Assist the Food and Beverage team in all their departments.
- May be asked to help with the setups, breakdowns and the running of catering and special events.
- Complete rotation around the departments of the POA.
- Attend Food & Beverage meetings and other meetings with the management staff
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
While your weekly schedule will change week-to-week, throughout your internship, you will spend shifts in another department learning from the department heads and their staff. Below are the departments you will rotate through. Most of the week you will be scheduled in the food service areas. On top of all of this, you will have weekly meetings with the Internship Coordinator, to go over the week, talk about what you’ve learned and any comments, questions, concerns you may have.
Rotational Departments
Accounting/Human Resources, Golf, Membership & Marketing, Culinary, Catering & Events, Pool, Duffers, Racquet Club, Golf Course Maintenance, Swim Club, Fitness, Marina and Architectural Environmental Control Department (AECD).
INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS
This is a paid twelve-week internship with a requirement of working at least 40 hours a week. Along with your day-to-day tasks, there are two other aspects to the internship at Big Canoe POA that will need to be completed before the end of the summer, which is a required reading and a Club of the Future presentation.

Club of the Future
Club of the Future is a great tool to better share our ideas and present them to see how we can better our industry. This Club of the Future project is specific to Big Canoe. You will pick one of the following areas and design, plan and present your idea in week 11 of your internships.
Community of the Future Areas:
Community and Amenity Engagement, Property Owner Satisfaction, Children Programming, and Employee Services
Once completed this project will be presented by you to a group of leaders.
HOUSING
Shared housing is available on site at $200 per month and a one-time $250 refundable deposit. Weekly cleaning services will be provided and include cleaning bathrooms, floors and dusting. All other cleaning is the responsibility of the interns.
