Big Canoe POA
Join us at Big Canoe for our twelve-week Golf Rotational Management Internship. You will get to learn from out great staff and experience all that Big Canoe has to offer. This program will take you through golf area departments at the POA and show you how vital they all are to member satisfaction. Along with your rotations you will be working in the cart barn, at the front counter, helping with inventory, helping with golf tournaments and working on the golf course. We have many MGA and WGA golf tournaments, so you will get to experience a variety of events.

POSITION SUMMARY
The following job description details the scope responsibility and specific areas of responsibility regarding the Golf Professional Intern. The Head Golf Professional has the authority to add, detract, or otherwise change the scope of responsibilities, as he/she feels necessary to properly manage the day-to-day operation of the Big Canoe Property Owners Association (POA).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Professional team in managing the golf operation.
- Developing solutions to enhance the overall Golf operation at Big Canoe.
- Responsible for Driving Range yardage markers distances.
- Work counter as scheduled (approximately 25 hours/week).
- Assist 2nd Assistant with receiving merchandise.
- Manage and maintain the Locker Room and Bag Storage list to ensure proper billing of all users.
- Assist Professionals with Men’s, Woman’s and Junior Clinics if needed.
- Assist and have knowledge of daily checkout procedures.
- Assist and have knowledge of arranging games, starting procedures, and flow of play.
- Assist and have knowledge of cleanliness of golf shop, offices, and stockroom.
- Assist and have knowledge for selling and displaying of merchandise.
- Work one week with the golf course superintendent and/or designee.
- May play golf with members of different skill levels to promote participation across all Property Owner demographics with Head Golf Professional approval.
- Attend Golf Operations meetings and other meetings with the management staff.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
While your weekly schedule will change week-to-week. Throughout your internship, you will spend shifts in all areas of the golf department learning from the department heads and their staff. In addition, you will have weekly meetings with the Internship Coordinator, to go over the week, talk about what you’ve learned, and any comments, questions, concerns you may have.
INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS
This is a paid twelve-week internship with a requirement of working at least 40 hours a week. Along with your day-to-day tasks there are two other aspects to the internship at Big Canoe POA that will need to be completely before the end of the summer. A required reading of Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard (less than a two hour read) and a Golf of the Future presentation. The Golf of the Future is a great tool to better share our ideas and present them to see how we can better our industry. This Golf of the Future project is specific to Big Canoe. You will pick one of the following areas and design, plan and present your idea in week 11 of your internship.
Community of the Future Areas:
Golf Engagement, Owner Satisfaction, Children Programming and Employee Services
Once completed this project will be presented by you to a group of leaders.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Must be in PGA program working towards membership.
- College student or PGA equivalent.
- Have a good working knowledge of clubs, shafts and golf balls club repair.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays if needed.
- Must be able to work during all tournaments if needed.
- Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
- Must be capable of lifting boxes with weights up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass or be capable of passing PGA players ability test.
- Intern will be required to give a presentation of what they’ve learned and share ideas for improvements specific to golf at Big Canoe.
HOUSING
Shared housing is available on site at $200 per month and a one-time $250 refundable deposit. Weekly cleaning services will be provided and include cleaning bathrooms, floors and dusting. All other cleaning is the responsibility of the interns.
BENEFITS
Meal at no charge while on duty, playing and practice privileges on the golf course and driving range and access to the rest of Big Canoe’s amenities (pool, fitness, tennis, Pickleball, marina and hiking).
