While the Club is open 7 days per week, member a la carte dining is offered Monday - Friday for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The Club is closed on all major holidays. In 2014, The Chicago Club opened a seasonal rooftop terrace, which overlooks Lake Michigan and many of Chicago's cultural and recreational venues.

Founded in 1869, The Chicago Club is one of Chicago’s premier private clubs and one of the world’s most prestigious and historic city clubs.  The Club's membership is comprised of many of Chicago's top C-suite executives and community leaders.  The Club is located in downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue across from Grant Park and in close proximity to the Art Institute of Chicago and Millennium Park.

The Club offers 32 overnight guest rooms. 

Club is open 7 days per week, 12 months per year.

Brief Job Description

The internship program is designed to provide each student with a real-life working environment where they can execute the principles, skills and concepts they acquire in school. The primary focus of this internship revolves around Food and Beverage operations. Extensive training will be provided in fine dining, casual dining, catering, private parties, and club event operations.

Responsibilites:

  • Adheres to all Club standards as dictated in the employee handbook.
  • Punctuality, arrive at your scheduled time, follows proper payroll procedures.
  • Mannerisms project a professional image of self and the Club.
  • Attentive to the needs of all members and guests by providing them with dependable, punctual and enthusiastic service.
  • Makes him/herself accessible for any needs that may arise.
  • Greets and acknowledges the member/guest with a smile and eye contact. Addresses the member by name; displays upmost respect, courtesy and politeness.
  • Serves all food and beverages according to the standards set forth by the Club.
  • Gathers and transports all supplies needed for the set-up of a function including but not limited to, silver, china, linen, skirts, glassware, condiments, AV, etc.
  • Sets-up and services buffet tables in accordance with the Club standards and function requirements.
  • Properly set all tables, service stations and back of the house areas for functions according to established service standards.
  • Prepares and returns all mise en place for any function.
  • Ensures all tables and chairs are set and the space is clean/neat prior to end of shift.
  • Services all functions including plated, buffet, VIP meals, coffee breaks, weddings, receptions, etc.
  • Familiar with the items on the menu and can advise a member/guest of daily specials.
  • Maintains the ability to recite a la carte/banquet menus.
  • Understands and communicates dietary restrictions accordingly.
  • Inputs food order into POS System and assures accuracy of entry.
  • Anticipates and recognizes the needs of the guest and the timing of each course.
  • Sets-up, maintains and breaks down a bar or beverage station according to Club standard.
  • Transports liquor, wine, beer, soda, juice, condiments, non-food items, and glassware to a function room or dining room.
  • Prepares drinks according to standard recipes using the proper stemware and garnish.
  • TIPS/BASSET certified.
  • Basic beverage service skills to include knowledge of brand names and preparation of cocktails.
  • Tallies consumption bars accurately and records figures where and when appropriate.
  • Recognizes and addresses potentially intoxicated, disruptive or undesirable guests.
  • Assists in the set-up, break down and clean up of all function rooms.
  • Fully aware of sanitation and cleanliness practices of handling food, beverage, dining equipment and supplies
  • No solicitation of gratuities.
  • Ability to attend and participate in all required meetings.
  • Acts upon the advice and requests of the Captain and/or at times, perform supervisory duties
  • Fosters and projects a positive work environment.
  • Completes any reasonable tasks assigned by management.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Full availability Monday-Saturday.
  • 2+ years of hands on experience in Food & Beverage operations.
  • Ability to communicate with members/guests in a professional manner.
  • Reading, writing and oral proficency in the English language.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
  • Computer literate.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 pounds.

Educational Requirements

  • Full time sophomore, junior, or senior level Hospitality major student.
  • Progressive growth in the Club industry is a plus.
  • Active CMAA member a plus
  • High school diploma
