Intern

Brief Job Description

The Student Intern position provides an opportunity for the student to acquire working experience in the club segment of the hospitality industry.  Because each intern comes to the Club with a specific set of experiences, education, and career objectives, the intern position is customized to the intern’s specific objectives in coordination with the Club’s needs.  The Student Intern works in various departments and is not assigned to a home department.  However, the individual will receive his or her orientation and primary work experience based on the intern’s objectives and the Club’s needs.  The intern shall be assigned a primary supervisor to administer the internship.

Schedule:   The Student Intern’s work schedule shall be determined by the primary manager in accordance with operational needs and the Intern’s educational objectives.  The availability and basic schedule is recorded in the employment offer letter.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  Reports to work prepared to utilize this opportunity to gain experience in his or her chosen field, while simultaneously making valuable contributions to the Club.  The intern may be assigned to work in the following positions with the associated duties and responsibilities:

  1. Server/Captain - Prepare for and cleans up after service.  Provide food and beverage, and hospitality service.  Knowledge of food and beverage products and services offered. This position will evolve into an oversight position.
  2. Administrative Clerk / Catering Assistant - General clerical and administrative support.  Data entry, filing, correspondence, processing mail, and taking messages.  Assist with annual Club gaming tournaments.  Provide administrative support for various Club committees.  Maintain office supplies and equipment.  Ensure all records, files, and supplies are organized. 
  3. Receptionist / Front Office - Answer telephone.  Take reservations for events,  Know club traditions and rules.
  4. Housekeeping Department- Security of building.   Move furniture.  Know club services and rules.  Emergency response. Set up/breakdown of events. Re-organize storeroom and ordering process.
  5. Kitchen Utility Steward – Dishwashing, and general cleaning and maintenance.  Fill supply requisitions.

Uniform:  Attire shall at all times be conservative, business-oriented, and appropriate to the Club’s decorum and to the position.  When assigned to specific jobs, the Student Intern shall provide his or her own –

Administrative Clerk or Receptionist - Business attire.

Server, Bell Person or Receiving Clerk - White shirt, black socks, and black pants.  Black shoes as specified in the Employee Handbook.  The Club provides a Vest and Club tie.

Steward/Housekeeping - Shoes as specified in the Employee Handbook.  Other parts of the uniform and protective equipment will be provided by the Club.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Full availability Tuesday-Sunday
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in Food & Beverage operations.
  • Ability to communicate with members/guests in a professional manner.
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Computer literate.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 pounds.

Educational Requirements

  • Full-time freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior level Hospitality major student.
  • Progressive growth in the Club industry is a plus.
  • Active CMAA member a plus
  • High school diploma

Other Benefits

$ 15.00/ hour. Overtime is available

Housing will be provided for qualifying applicant, but the individual must have a car for traveling from the Club to the housing location.
