Idea Fair
24 Hours of Golf Fundraiser
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Champions Run’s very own Ben Lorenzen set out to raise money for the Special Olympics of Nebraska by attempting to set a record for the most holes of golf played on a par 3 course in 24 hours without using a cart. With the help of many members and partners, the Kraken Kares program was able to raise over $25,000 for the Special Olympics of Nebraska! Lorenzen played golf for 24 straight hours, using one club, in an effort to raise money and awareness for the Organization.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The event was orchestrated months in advance by securing a local par 3 course, Eagle Run Golf Course. In addition, Champions Run partnered with the Nebraska CMAA, GCSAA and PGA to create a spectacular event. With the help of countless supporters, Lorenzen was able to play 24 hours of straight golf, ultimately playing 501 holes in 24 hours. Our Champions Run members completely backed the cause and helped triple the fundraising efforts for the Special Olympics. The event was live streamed, so everyone could watch along the way. The event was followed by a Helicopter Drop, which raised over $3000 in additional funds.
Partnering with this amazing organization within the community has spearheaded our DEI initiatives and our community outreach in Omaha.
