4th of July Dunk Contest: CHAMPIONS RUN SLAM AND JAM
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
To enhance our 4th of July splash contest we wanted to do something different that would be the spectical of the summer. Instead of a traditional, and boring, splash contest we decided to do a DUNK contest. This event has become a staple for our 4th of July party and has continued to be a fun event we do throughout the summer.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We purchased an inflatable basketball hoop and suspended it in the pool with string. Our lifeguards can move it accordingly with the rope. We have Both a kids dunk contest and an adults dunk contest. Additionally, our staff (the celebrity judging panel) rates each dunk, just like the NBA dunk contest. Participants have to receive a certain score to advance to the next round. Hundreds of people laughed and cheered as participants made fools of themselves trying to throw down ‘epic dunks’. However, the talent increased and people were doing double flips and still making buckets! To the outstanding cheers of the spectators this was one of the most fun events our club has done in years!
