Idea Fair
A Carrot for Good Merit
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The carrot card is an inter-departmental employee appreciation system that was created so that employees could point out other superstar employees. There are no managers involved in the process, except for choosing the initial recipient. Once an employee receives a carrot card, for the next three days they will be on the lookout for those in different departments who are going above and beyond. This way, the employees who may be doing great things without managers seeing will still get the recognition and gratification they deserve. Once the entire card is filled with names and their good actions, it will be returned to Human Resources and there will be a drawing of the names listed for a special surprise.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Our staff loved the idea of the carrot card. Those who received it said it felt great to be acknowledged by another team member from a different department. It was refreshing for them to receive confirmation that they were doing a good job even though some of the good deeds were not always seen by managers. Giving staff the chance to recognize other employees made them feel empowered and important. The special surprise for the drawing rotated between gift cards to restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations and grocery stores. We had a Spanish version of the card as well for our staff that primarily speaks Spanish.
