Idea Fair

A Timelapse of the Chandelier

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

The project featured the restoration of our 95-year-old chandeliers—one of only two of its kind known to exist. These historic fixtures underwent a five-month, $600,000 restoration in New York City to ensure they shine brilliantly for the next 95 years. The chandelier refurbishment timelapse project provided members with a way to stay connected to the ongoing enhancements at the Club. By documenting this process, we offered a unique behind-the-scenes look at the effort invested in maintaining the Club’s timeless elegance. A 2.5-minute timelapse captured the process of removing the chandeliers, installing temporary replacements, and finally, the return of the restored chandeliers to their rightful place. This initiative showcased our commitment to preserving the Club’s heritage and transformed a technical project into a compelling narrative that fostered pride and engagement among our members.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

To implement the chandelier refurbishment timelapse, we purchased a timelapse camera based on recommendations from our regular photographer and hardware to secure the camera for the extended recording period. We scheduled the recordings in advance to align with the removal, temporary replacement and reinstallation of the chandeliers. We made some minor edits to the footage and shared it with members through a dedicated email campaign. Additionally, we hired a photographer to document the first day of the removal process so we could have high-res images featured in our printed newsletter. The timelapse video was also referenced in the newsletter. Member feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and they appreciated the ability to share in such a significant moment in the Club’s history.
