Idea Fair
Air Force 1 Workshop
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Air Force 1 Workshop took participants through the complete process of designing, prepping, painting and finishing custom sneakers. To get ready for this workshop, our Director of Youth Activities watched hours of Youtube videos and used professional-grade products to ensure the sneakers would be of the highest quality when finished! This idea was part of an initiative to involve our underserved adolescent group here at the club. Outside of our club sports, we don't get a lot of participation from the ages of 10-20. We hope to continue to host events of high interest for that age group to create a welcoming environment for them!
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We have received great feedback from those who participated. They were really proud of their hard work. They were also pleasantly surprised that we weren't just coloring their shoes with markers. Our process was extensive, and I think they really appreciated the fact that they got to learn a cool new skill. Parents of younger children also expressed their excitement for their kids to get to participate in this workshop, and ones like it, in the future. We even got a call from a member from another club asking about our workshop after hearing about it on the golf course.
