Idea Fair
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
A new tradition began at River Oaks during the holiday season of 2018! Each year, the Club hosts a Family Christmas Dinner in early December. The event is complete with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse and carriage rides, and a bountiful holiday feast. But one important tradition has been missing over the years: a Christmas Tree! Not only does it enhance the decor around the club for the holiday season, but allows for special new memories for our member families.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
An 18-foot lighted tree was installed on the Club's Event Lawn for families to enjoy. But, what is a tree lighting without a special child to flip the switch and light the tree?
Children's names were entered in a drawing and ROCC's Maintenance team built the perfect switch to power the tree.
Nearly 300 members watched from the Club's terrace and surrounding lawn. With a little coordination and engineering from the ROCC team, a boisterous countdown and one lucky little girl ready to flip the switch, the magic of Christmas lit up the night sky and brought a fun new tradition to the holiday season at River Oaks!
