Idea Fair
Around the World
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
This event brought excitement back when we had a bleak outlook for summer celebrations. We were able to have two committee chairs be the hosts this party and create a safe and socially distanced cart-tail party. We utilized all of our outdoor spaces that traditionally are non-event spaces, a surplus of golf carts due to higher amount of golf rounds and limited capacity mandates per the state. We now have a bi-annual event that will sell out within a few days of it opening. We are able to keep the event fresh and fun with new countries and themes at each. We asked all participants to wear their best vacation outfits for the evening.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We drafted the concept of an Around the World in three hours due to no one traveling this past summer. We had a cap of 60 people which was around 30 couples in total for the event. They all gathered in one area where they were given a Passport for the evening. Each passport had them starting in different locations across the Club grounds. Each country had 5 couples at a time. The couples were broken into different groups prior to takeoff, they traveled in that group for the whole night. The groups were randomized and added some spice to see who they were spending the evening with. They would enjoy themed drinks, food, music and décor at each stop for 30 minutes. When the 30 minutes elapsed we drove around and guided them to their next destination. The members had a blast and it created a buzz that evening when they were driving around on the carts. They were able to pretend they went on vacation with their friends for a few hours. It was an escape.
