Idea Fair
Art Showcases
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
A highlight of Cosmos Club cultural life is the vast art displays throughout the Clubhouse. Art showcases are either works by members or works owned by members featuring renowned artists. These showcases change four times a year and are in locations; Crentz Room, Entrance corridor, Long Gallery and Madison vestibule. The Crentz Room is the largest display and is highlighted with a “meet the artist event”. This past year, because of the pandemic, we have not changed the art display as members have no access. We did the “meet the artist” virtually and created copies of the artwork to display in our new outdoor dining tent, set up specifically for pandemic.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Originals of the artwork were gathered from photos provided by the artist and professional copies were produced to display. This served a dual purpose. It helped us showcase the artwork, which happened to be members work, and it helped bring some life to otherwise plain white tented space. Since the outdoor dining became our busiest space, and continues to be with outdoor heaters, it has enhanced the member dining experience. Members were thrilled to see the collection and to have an improved dining aesthetic.
