Idea Fair
Baltimore Country Club Activities
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
- Kids Book Club – BCC provided a way for kids to keep reading while schools were closed by creating a Kids Book Club. Kids who read 10 books every week and presented their reading log to the events team earned a special brownie from À la Carte Curbside.
- Curbside Pickup Kits – Members were offered weekly menus that were on a constant rotation of hot meals for curbside pickup. These menus offered kit add-ons to allow families to bond over creating cake pops, cookie decorating, baking, and gingerbread house kits.
- Easter - The Club’s traditional Easter Egg Hunt was replaced with an At-Home Easter Kit, which included hardboiled eggs, egg dye, pre-filled plastic eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt, and crafts, all packaged in a colorful Easter basket.
- Mother’s Day - The Club’s annual Mother-Daughter event pivoted to a virtual experience (Zoom) with our Pastry Chef, who helped show children how to decorate a “planter” made of (six) cupcakes.
- Christmas - The traditional Gingerbread Party event transitioned completely to-go. The clubhouse porte-cochere was converted to a drive-thru with gingerbread house decorations, a live DJ, and staff dressed as elves and reindeer to welcome the families picking up their gingerbread house kits.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The implementation of the youth activities was focusing on some of our core values of being extraordinary and doing what is right, not what is easy. Providing children activities during the Covid-19 pandemic has added much value to the families that call BCC their second home. While many families, along with their children, were at home the club focused on providing entertainment and activities with both virtual events and with at-home kits.
