Idea Fair
Bay Head Blue Star
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
This summer, members of the BHYC management team developed an idea to increase employee morale and show appreciation and recognition for the hard work that hundreds of staff members put in over the season. To do this, a small group of department managers developed the “5 Points of the Bay Head Burgee” which was a guideline that all employees should strive to work towards every day. The “Points” were: Safety, Respect, Communication, Teamwork, and Recognition. Nominations to award the staff members who best exemplify these, come directly from their peers, not from management.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Due to the seasonal nature of the Club, five stars were given throughout the year, representing the different “seasons” of the Club. The winners were presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement along with $200 cash and their photo on a plaque where it is visible to both staff and membership. This encourages staff to recognize the work that their peers are doing and look outside of their department for the common goal of creating the best member experience that the Club can offer. While no members were involved with this program, the Board of Trustees and Commodore were fully aware and encouraging of the award.
