Idea Fair
BCC Apple Spirits
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Our Horticulture Team grows a variety apples on our Five Farms campus for our Culinary and Food & Beverage Teams to use. With our surplus of apples, we wanted to bring fall flavor to our members with apple flavored spirits. We introduced an apple cordial and apple flavored vodka with club-grown apples from the orchards near Hole 3 on the East Course.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Director of Horticulture delivered the Granny Smith and Cortland apples to McClintock Distilling, where they were distilled and bottled. Then, our team had a tasting for the spirits before we gave final approval to proceed. Our Communications Team designed the front and back labels for both spirits, ensuring all legal requirements were met. The back label also featured the signatures of our Director of Horticulture and Five Farms Horticulturist who manage the BCC Orchard. McClintock produced 360 bottles of each spirit.
To celebrate the holiday season, we launched an exclusive pre-sale, limited to 100 bottles of each spirit, with an email to the membership featuring an online order form. Nearly half of the bottles have already been purchased by members.
We are excited to introduce our newest house cocktail, Tilly’s Harvest Rye, incorporating the BCC Apple Cordial with Michter’s Rye and house caraway bitters.
