Idea Fair
BCC YOUniversity
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
At BCC, we are fortunate to have a breadth of talented members and staff with interesting life experiences and areas of expertise. To foster an engaging and fun learning experience for our staff, our Human Resources Team created BCC YOUniversity, which was introduced to staff members in May 2021. BCC YOUniversity is a continuing education program to promote personal and professional growth for all Baltimore Country Club staff. Staff can learn new skills from fellow staff members, members, and special guests in various courses ranging from gardening and mixology to leadership and fitness. Special guests have included Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr., Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, and United States men’s national team soccer player Walker Zimmerman.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
At the start of the program year, each staff member receives a copy of the course catalog detailing the program requirements and classes offered each month through the end of the fiscal year. Three categories of courses are offered to ensure a well-rounded program experience. These include:
- BCC Enrichment - Course subject applies to the work environment
- Member Engagement - Taught by a BCC member about their area of expertise
- Personal Enrichment - Personal interests/hobbies
Full-time staff are required to earn a total of 4.5 credits, including at least one BCC Enrichment and one Member Engagement credit. Staff registers for classes online using Sign Up Genius. Classes are held during the workday and range from 30 minutes to an hour. Following each class, staff members receive a survey about their experience. Our staff members have reacted positively to participating in the program over the past two years. As of January 17, 2023, 49 classes were held with 674 participants.
