Idea Fair
"Bee Inspired" Initiative
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
In an ongoing effort to advance our sustainable resource management practices as a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, Mirasol is now home to 20 beehives and we have harvested more than 1,00 pounds of our own brand of honey, called Yes! honey.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
When we announced our "Bee Inspired" initiatives, we engaged our dynamic beekeepers to make several presentations for our members, including a fun and educational session for kids! Participants left these sessions more aware of the environmental importance of bees and more invested in our program. In addition to selling jars of honey to our members and offering them as take-home gifts, we also produce a nourishing lip balm, more than a dozen different spa products, and a propolis-based hand sanitizer, and we also use the sweet nectar in cocktails and culinary recipes. Yes! Honey products are a point of pride for our members, who relish purchasing them as gifts for friends as much as they enjoy using the items themselves. Overall our initiative has boosted community spirit and raised awareness about our environmental impact.
