Idea Fair
Belle Haven Academy
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The pandemic has forced schools across the country to turn to virtual learning for their students. In the Alexandria area, many of our parents struggled to manage their children’s virtual schooling and homework, while they themselves were working from home.
The Belle Haven Academy and Learning Lab were developed to assist member families during this unprecedented time by offering a classroom solution, outside of the home, to provide quality oversight, instruction, and management of their child’s distanced learning schedule.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We teamed up with Little Scholars to create a safe, fun, and educational environment for the children who must learn virtually this year. We have an experienced teacher, Ms. D, who is actively managing all of the children’s schedules, ensuring completion of assignments, reviewing work for accuracy, and providing academic tutoring and enrichment activities. Ms. D also interacts daily with both school teachers and parents to ensure a strong connection between teacher, classroom, and home.
The Academy has a wide range of offerings for kids K-12, including day camps, craft activities, tutoring boot camps, and much more. We will also be planning summer enrichment camps and activities to augment the weekly sports camps offered each summer.
"We have been very pleased with the safe environment provided at the BHLL for our daughter to focus on her schoolwork. Having a professional teacher with her in the classroom environment has kept her focused and replicated her being in a classroom. We are also grateful that she is around other kids her age and has the opportunity for physical activities each day too!" -BHCC Member
