Idea Fair
Belle Meade University
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Belle Meade University is a lecture series put on by our membership for our membership. Topics included world finance, politics, sports, and even the life of some of our members and staff, including a lecture on Nuclear Energy and being married to an American spy in Japan. We generally get around 100-150 members to attend and attach a buffet to the lecture series.
BMU, or Belle Meade University, has successfully brought our membership together through stories and shared interests. Each topic is published more than a month in advance, and we have several members who sign up regardless of the topic to learn more, as others pick and choose what interests them. BMU has been a steady revenue-generating source for the club. We hold between 6-8 a year and over the past year.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Belle Meade University was the brainchild of one of our members. He loves to get members together and felt education in a fun setting would be the trick. He was correct. We have members who love the program and come back from time to time, no matter the topic. It has brought many of our older and younger members together to discuss some interesting topics.
