Idea Fair
Bi-annual First Responder Appreciation Day
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Twice each year for the last 4 years, Denver Country Club Board of Directors invites local law enforcement officers and firefighters to the club to participate in seasonal recreational club activities and enjoy a hearty fair of food with their families. In hosting first responder appreciation days, DCC hopes to show appreciation for the incredible work and sacrifices these individuals and their families make for our community. This has impacted the club in many positive ways. A mutual respect between club members highly present in the community and the first responders who serve and protect them is established through these events. Our members are thrilled to open their club to our first responders for recreational purposes as these first responders are often serving them at the club on big holiday events monitoring traffic, fireworks, etc.. We have created a special bond with our community first responders through these events.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Each fall, the first responders are invited to play a round of golf and we strategically place a club member in each group to help them feel welcome. This event has been so popular, we have over 40 members interested in be part of this special day. We align the golf outing with Halloween so families can explore our haunted house and take part in various festive activities together after golf. In March, we switch to winter-themed fun by hosting a big party at our Skatehouse. Together, the first responders and board of directors and their families skate, play paddle, and enjoy the camaraderie of our unique winter amenities.
