Idea Fair
Blast from the Past
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Junior Tennis Members were invited to play in our 2nd annual Blast from the Past Tennis event that took them back to the roots of how Tennis was created. Players learned about the evolution of tennis while playing games to win prizes. They also gained valuable knowledge about the history of tennis and the evolution of tennis at the Club.
This idea has enhanced our operations as it gave more exposure to our Tennis department. It focused on one of our core values, tradition, and allowed the members to enjoy one of our more popular activities here at the Club.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
As a continuation of the Club’s celebration of our 125th Anniversary, we hosted a Blast from the Past Tennis event that allowed the younger members to experience how the Club used to be when it was first created. The event began with the members reading through a booklet that provided insight of the evolution of Tennis at the Club as well as the history of Tennis itself. They then enjoyed an experience on court where they played games with foam balls and old wooden racquets. At the conclusion of the event, members were able to enjoy specialty old school snacks for a complete Blast of the Past!
As this event marketed more towards the younger members, it allowed the parents to get involved in having their children be a part of the history and tradition that they grew up with. It is an event in which the membership has desired to continue throughout the following years.
