Idea Fair
Bocce Courts
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
New to the Club this year was the installation of two Har-Tru Bocce Courts on the east end of the campus next to our Tennis Courts. As recreation and the usage of the Club continues to grow, it’s important that BHYC offers as much programming and as many activities for the membership to enjoy as possible. Members are able to enjoy open play on the courts or join a league and play against other members. Members can also reserve the courts or host a social event under the court’s tented viewing porch.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Having these Bocce courts fosters relationships between members who might have not otherwise connected. It offers more Club-locations for socializing and gathering. It allows for more opportunities to sell food and beverage as well. Often, members who are using the courts are enjoying a cold draft beer, a glass of wine, or a tray of snacks. If they aren’t, they typically come to the Club to dine before or after play. Being Har-Tru, the courts require the same maintenance as the tennis courts. Since they’re adjacent it takes very little time and no additional staff to groom them for play.
Bocce will soon be a part of the Racquets program, tying in directly with recreation that occurs on the East Side of campus.
