Breast Cancer Awareness Month

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

October, better known as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month “, in South Africa is a nationwide drive by public and private healthcare structures to raise awareness of this illness. In support of this special month and to raise awareness, we hosted a 5KM Fun Walk/Run.

Residents, members, employees, families and friends gathered together to raise awareness and funds for CANSA (The Cancer Association of South Africa) and collections for ZABRA - AfreeBra initiative is an international volunteer network, collecting pre-owned and new bras.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

A donation of R50 gave you an entry into the 5KM Fun Walk/Run. We encouraged participants to wear a bra over their t-shirts to show support. Once the course was completed, you were able to exchange a bra for a cupcake – “Two cups for one cup”.

We raised much needed funding for CANSA and we donated over 100 bra’s to ZABRA.
