Idea Fair
Burgundy Taste & Learn
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
We been fortunate to grow our wine list to 600+ selections, with Burgundy as a prominent and popular section in two different restaurant outlets. While we have a team comprised of individuals experiencing wine education on the sommelier track to guide dining decisions, many members have requested to learn more about their selections, with a theme of appreciating (but not understanding) Burgundy. When we chose to host this specific event, it allowed for members to increase not only knowledge and education about the wine, but excited for them to order wines of higher quality at the Club. Our Wine Director had just recently traveled to the region, which allowed for special insight and a direct connection to winemakers in the region who were able to Zoom live during the event.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The idea came to fruition with our Wine Director's passion and vision to not only host an event that would be enjoyable through tasting, but also through learning. Wine tastings are a commonalty at wineries and clubs, but an education added a special value to the 40 members that joined in on the event. The wine maker Alice Rion, from the Domaine in Vosne-Romanee educated members about the specific wines they tasted, explaining style and quality notes discussed in the event's presentation about the region. In total, there were four wines in the flight ranging all the way up to Grand Cru quality. Throughout the evening, and after the event we received such positive feedback that has encouraged a strong wine and education event calendar for the upcoming year.
