Idea Fair
Cake Camp
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Summertime is often filled with numerous camps at private clubs. But Miramont’s inaugural Cake Camp in 2017 was unique in many ways. Under the direction of Pastry Chef Chera Marco, student chefs participated in hands-on training in a professional kitchen. At the end of the week-long camps, students hosted family and friends at a dessert buffet where they revealed their fabulous cake creations!
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Spots filled up so quickly for the inaugural Cake Camp (August 1-4, 2017) that Miramont offered a second session for the children and grandchildren (ages 10 to 17) of members. Among other things, each child was taught how to bake braided bread, chocolate chip cookies, fruit tart and the famous drip cake. Students also learned how to maintain a clean kitchen. The student chefs enjoyed a tremendous week of activities, but perhaps their parents and grandparents were the biggest winners, as they were treated to a fabulous dessert buffet at the end of the week. It was a "sweet" success in so many ways.
