Idea Fair
Canada Day Blockbuster
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Following two years of persistent COVID-19 lockdowns, over 1,000 Members came together for this large outdoor event, gathering their families and friends to celebrate Canada Day, the main national holiday. This was a wonderful way to kick off the summer season and officially welcome Members back to regular Club life.
The Granite Club is no stranger to temporarily transforming facilities in order to offer its Members experiences of a lifetime. This event was no exception, with regular operations paused for the day in several venues and our various teams coming together to make the magic happen. Teamwork makes the dream work!
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
This event was run by the Child & Youth Team in collaboration with the Food & Beverage Team and heavily supported by the Facilities Team. Various children’s activities were offered on the Tennis Courts (tarped) and Curling Rink (de-iced), including inflatable structures, strolling characters and magicians, face painters, balloonists and craft stations. Gaming activities were offered in The Hub Youth Centre. Food was offered in the Grand Ballroom and on the Driveway Circle: carnival-style treats as well as food trucks with ice cream and Beavertails. At dusk, glow sticks were distributed, followed by a spectacular 15-minute fireworks show, along with Canada Day Cupcakes.
Feedback from Members was overwhelmingly positive, with many stating that this was their first major social event following the lockdowns, and that it was so refreshing to once again be able to celebrate with their beloved Granite community.
