Idea Fair

Cardboard Boat Race

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

The River Oaks Regatta has added a new tradition to the Club's Fourth of July Celebration! It's an activity families can enjoy together. It brings a vast span of ages together, from grade school to teens; even parents participated. It was so fun to see the creativity on display and everyone was such a good sport. Those members not in the race also enjoyed watching it! All you need is a pool, some cardboard and a little (or a lot) duct tape!

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We had 18 families participate in the first year - which we considered a success. We sent out the rules nearly a month ahead of time allowing families to design and engineer their boat. The families loved the idea of an activity they could do together. Prizes, both traditional and fun, were awarded. This new tradition is here to stay!
