Clubhouse Celebrates 100 Years
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The history of Cherokee Town and Country Club: The summer of 1955 a group of energetic young married couples gathered at the home of Pat and James E. "Hass" Williams to explore the possibility of forming a social club for families on Atlanta's north-side. A core group formed and in a matter of six short months, the committee reported their success in securing the famed Grant Estate for the Town Club. The Grant Estate - one of Atlanta's grand residences was built during World War I and completed in 1918. !00 years later Cherokee honored the structure with a celebration of a "Century of Music" featuring the Georgia Symphony Orchestra.
The Club has never attempted to do a production like this before, this now provides a vision for future events "thinking outside the box"
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We made the decision that the event would showcase the architectural beauty of the home - a clear top tent was erected on the front lawn using the front of of the house as the backdrop, a stage for the 48 piece symphony was placed at the base of the home - up-lights flooded the facade of the mansion the sun set, the clear top tent allowed for every detail to be seen by the members seated on the front lawn of their Club.
A truly memorable experience is planned in our celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Grant House. The concert celebration will begin with passed Champagne and a reception style dinner presented throughout the entire main floor of the Town Club.
The highlight of the evening will be the 48-piece Georgia Symphony Orchestra in concert performing "A Century of Music." This will take place under a grand clear tent covering our entire front entry lawn.

THE TEAM LASSOED THE MOON!
In the classic Christmastime old black and white movie, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, legendary actor Jimmy Stewart offered this memorable line … “You want the moon? Just say the word and I'll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That's a pretty good idea. I'll give you the moon!”
Well — collectively, as a team, we did just that! Together we “lassoed” the moon — we took some new ideas — executed the details to perfection — and pulled off not just a pretty good weekend for our members—we gave them the moon!
Accolades, praise and deep expressions of appreciation from the membership has been pouring in more so than anyone around Cherokee can recall. Here are just a few of the many direct quotes from members that include our president, long-time members, as well as many who just recently joined.
“Jennifer and I really enjoyed last night. Please thank your entire team for a job very well done! I feel so honored to belong to such a wonderful club.”
“Congratulations to you and your staff. Yesterday’s celebration was sheer joy. Elizabeth and I think it was the nicest event we have been to since we joined Cherokee in 2007. Please let the staff know what a wonderful job they all did.”
“I just wanted to tell you again how awesome the event was last night. The start time, food, drinks and outdoor entertainment were just perfect! Hope you guys do that again!”
What a special night you orchestrated on Sunday for our 100 Grant House celebration--------------well done to all. Our group really enjoyed the evening.
I hope you and your team could get some well-deserved rest after such a busy weekend.
“What a first rate event!! Bravo!! We should make an annual Cherokee tradition if possible. Well done!”
“Last night, maybe a new tradition was started. What a pleasant evening! Word will get out and I think you’ll see big demand for a repeat performance in the near future.
And, I’d like to add my own words of gratitude and recognition to department heads, loyal employees who have been here for years, those who just joined us recently, as well as our extended banquet team. EVERYONE did their part. All had a hand in not just pulling off a tremendous weekend for our members. No, we did far more than that! Together we threw up a lasso … and gave them the moon! A very full one that they will never forget.
Please accept my warmest appreciation and respect for the role everyone played. It's an honor to be on our team. Kim Crandal - Town Club Manager
