Core Curriculum for Managers

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

New and newly promoted managers/supervisors are learning the basics of Club leadership in their first 1-3 months on the job with this self-paced training program. The Core Curriculum includes the following modules:

  • Leading in a Values-Based Organization
  • CCV Management Basics
  • Accident Reporting and Workers’ Compensation
  • Giving Feedback and Corrective Action Procedures

HR offers in-person refresher courses annually; however, new managers are enrolled in the Core Curriculum in the first quarter they are hired, and do not have to wait up to a year to receive the valuable information. The Core Curriculum promotes education, efficiency, and increased effectiveness.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

With a combination of PowerPoint presentations with voiceovers, videos, handouts, and interactive assignments, the Core Curriculum engages learners through multiple training styles. Every quarter, HR reviews who was internally promoted or hired into a supervisory position across the Club. Those individuals are then electronically enrolled into the Core Curriculum. They, along with their direct manager, receive a welcome email and access to the Core Curriculum content. Each participant is given 12 weeks to complete the curriculum. Once each module and assignment has been completed, the participant will sit down with a member of the Human Resources team to review, respond to any lingering questions, and share feedback in a 1:1 meeting. The Core Curriculum was rolled out in May 2024, and 16 participants have completed graduation. Each participant has expressed greater understanding of management expectations at CCV, depth of procedural knowledge, and appreciation for the training resources available to them.
