Idea Fair
Court Yard Bonanza
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Investing in opportunities for staff to connect and enjoy their workplace environment is crucial to strengthening employee loyalty and creating a positive work culture. Knowing this, the Bay Head Yacht Club launched a weekly employee paddle league to boost staff morale and teamwork, culminating in the Court Yard Bonanza. It was an excellent opportunity for employees whose schedules or roles don't often overlap to get to know one another in a relaxed environment.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Every Wednesday, the work day ended an hour early, and staff gathered at the courts for friendly competition and fun. The season concluded with the Court Yard Bonanza, where all employees—whether they participated in the league or not—came together at our racquet facility to enjoy paddle, pickleball, and bocce. The afternoon featured plenty of pizza, refreshments and camaraderie, allowing staff to unwind, bond, and enjoy the Club's facilities. The initiative was well-received, with over 50 staff members attending; even the Commodore stopped by to join in on the fun.
Clubs can foster a sense of community and appreciation among employees through recreation leagues, group fitness activities, or social events that utilize underutilized facilities.
