Idea Fair
Culinary Class
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
We recognize the contribution of a well-cooked meal to our members’ overall health. Don’t we all wish that we could be better chefs and, as a result, eat healthier? Well, Fiddler’s Elbow members have opportunities to learn from the best! Chef Michael and his team host monthly culinary skills classes to teach the membership about topics like pasta making and creating homemade salad dressing. We will often have upwards of 20 people per class learning and expanding their culinary repertoire. Fiddler’s members are now well-prepared to choose an appropriate cooking knife for each task, prepare an entire Thanksgiving dinner (including and especially carving the turkey), and bake magnificent cakes. Some members even learned how to butcher a whole pig!
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We've implemented this idea by advertising in the newsletter and club calendar. The member reaction has been very positive. We have very diverse membership that come to the club's skill classes. Some are young newlywed couples, some are group of ladies & some are grandparents looking for new and different cooking techniques. The reactions have been very positive and it is a pleasure to hear members speak about these classes to their friends.
