Idea Fair
Diner en Blanc
Description
Canoe Brook hosted our own version of Diner en Blanc this July. Although our pop-up party under the stars was ultimately moved indoors due to a heatwave, over 150 Members and guests dressed in their best white attire attended the event. The secret location of the party was revealed via text message an hour before the event began. Once they arrived, guests were able to sample three different wines and select a bottle to accompany their pre-selected picnic dinner. The three-course picnic menu was “served” in individual picnic baskets so diners could enjoy their meal at their leisure. Throughout the evening party goers were treated to an electric string quartet and then ended the night with a DJ and packed dance floor
Implementation
When implementing this idea we decided that educating the members about the history of diner en blanc would be very important. Prior to sending out our event invitations, we had a series of articles in our newsletter and on the Club’s website about how the event came about and what our version of the event would be like.
Overall the feedback on this event was incredibly positive. What was especially nice about this event was that it attracted members from all different age groups. We had groups of our older members who we typically don’t see at our larger social events, out there on the dance floor with our “junior” members.
