Idea Fair
Down Bay Cruise to Tices Shoal
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Whether you are a seasoned boater or not, everyone loves the raft up at Tices Shoal. Tices Shoal is a shoal located in Barnegat Bay near Island Beach State Park, in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New Jersey. However, the name is also used to describe a location commonly used by boats and other watercraft slightly to the east. There is foot access to the main road of Island Beach State Park. This connects the boat anchorage to the beaches of the park.
Bringing members and staff together, whether it is for a few hours or the whole day, is always memorable for both. Having offsite bonding is a great way to give members an alternative place to gather other than their club. Members are able to meet new members they may not have known in the past and build new friendships.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
At the end of August, BHYC host a flotilla of boats to this spot where we have arranged a myriad of activities: kayaks, paddle boards, rubber tubes, wakeboarding, fishing and claming, to name just a few.
BHYC Dockmaster Buddy Majoros and his crew travel down ahead of the boaters and secure an area with all toys in tow. All the participating captains stock their own boats with provisions for the day and evening too. The Club provides and hand delivers to all who would like, a choice of gourmet dinners to the aft of your boat including lobster rolls, fried chicken and delicious desserts! All enjoy the clear shallow shoals of the Barnegat Bay and venture over to the beach in the evening for a bonfire complete with s’mores! Boaters have a choice to stay the night and return to Club the next day or make their own itinerary and return as they wish. Whether it is a few hours or the whole day, it is always a memorable and congenial time at Tices!
