Family Birdhouse Building

Description

Birds are an important part of our ecosystem. Like many other creatures, they help to control pest populations, weeds, and even aid in flower pollination. Bird houses provide a safe space for our feathered friends to build nests and seek protection from predators and harsh weather. The Youth Activities Department developed a creative spring event to encourage families to construct and decorate a birdhouse for their yards.

Implementation

Farmington's Maintenance Department cut all of the lumber for birdhouses in advance and pre-drilled all of the holes to make constructing the houses easier for younger members. Youth Program Managers helped the families put their houses together and children were able to paint and decorate the houses to take home. This was a fun event for parents and children to do together and it was enjoyed by the families.
