Idea Fair
Family Snow Day Sledding
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
A part of the winter season is outdoor winter activity. North Carolina does not naturally get much snow, so we set out to make our own. Pairing with a local ice company, they came out and blew snow down our 10th tee, and families brought their sleds for some fun. This event has enhanced our winter programming and created a time when parents and kids of all ages can come to the club and enjoy the winter season. It has also increased the traffic in our dining rooms during the event.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The club paired with a local ice company that blows snow down the 10th tee in the morning. We then lined the track with hay bales along the sides, and had a few employees at the bottom of the hill to help catch the smaller kids if they needed assistance. We provided a limo-golf cart to shuttle everyone back up the hill. Coffee, hot chocolate, and a few snacks were set up at the top of the hill for families to enjoy, and we set up a bar and a buffet per member charge as well.
The response to this event has been overwhelmingly positive. The first day we hosted the event, it was nearly 70 degrees and the membership had a blast sledding while in t-shirts and some in shorts. This has become a staple event on our calendar that our membership looks forward to each year.
