Idea Fair
Fiddler's Cares
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Everything we do has an impact on the world around us. When we leave the lights on, throw recyclables into the trash, or leave lots of excess food on a plate, we are being wasteful and irresponsible global citizens. At Fiddler’s, we have made a conscious choice to not only lessen our impact on the world around us, but make it better. We have replaced lightbulbs with LEDs that use a fraction of the power, improved our golf course irrigation water retention and reuse, and even encouraged members to utilize reusable water bottles instead of plastic cups.
In the kitchen, Chef Michael has created a program to maintain and cultivate a colony of honeybees. Chef picked the location, secured the hive and has become their beekeeper. The bees live on property, pollenate our flowers and keep our property looking marvelous. More directly, they also produce the honey that we utilize in our cooking and in our members’ tea. We also bottle it and sell the honey in our Golf Shop. Now, when members see bees on property, they recognize all of the good they bring (and that it’s nothing personal when they sting!).
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We've implemented this idea by designated an area on the property for our Bee Hive. Fiddler's Executive Chef, also work very closely with a local bee keeper to ensure the quality and overall health of our bees.
