Idea Fair
Flower Committee
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Flower Committee was introduced to Bay Head Yacht Club in an effort to bring members together with a common interest in horticulture, crafts, and floral design. This group has grown over the years into a well-established and crucial aspect of the Club. In addition to their monthly floral arrangement workshops, the real cornerstone of the Flower Committee is their weekly decorating of the Club foyer. Each week, a new volunteer on the committee puts their best efforts into decorating the BHYC foyer with a festive, themed, and very intricate design for all to enjoy.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Flower Committee helps enhance the Club not only by providing beautiful arrangements for the guests but by saving the Club the cost of doing so each week. If the Flower Committee did not provide these arrangements, the Club would have to outsource to a florist in order to create the elegant pieces that the volunteers construct. It also served as a way for members to get to know each other, as many new members felt comfortable joining such a friendly, inviting committee. Members love the foyer arrangements and are often impressed by the ability of the Flower Committee volunteers. The Flower Committee volunteers often theme the foyer in celebration of the season or holiday, which adds extra festivity to the Club.
